Acemox 250 mg
Description
Indications
Acemox is used for the treatment of open-angle glaucoma, secondary glaucoma, and as an adjunct therapy for edema and epilepsy.
Use this medication as per the advice of a registered physician.
Pharmacology
Acetazolamide is a carbonic anhydrase inhibitor that regulates the hydration of carbon dioxide and the dehydration of carbonic acid. In the eye, this inhibition reduces the production of aqueous humor, leading to a decrease in intraocular pressure, which is beneficial for glaucoma management. Additionally, by inhibiting carbonic anhydrase in the central nervous system, Acetazolamide helps slow down abnormal and excessive neuronal discharges, making it useful as an adjunct in epilepsy treatment.
Dosage & Administration
- Adults: Initially, 250 mg (1 tablet) four times daily. The dosage should be adjusted based on individual needs.
- Children: ½ to 2 tablets per day, divided into multiple doses.
- For intraocular pressure: 1 tablet every 6 hours. In acute conditions, the initial dose should be 2 tablets, followed by 1 tablet every 6 hours or as directed by a physician.
Use this medication as per the advice of a registered physician.
Contraindications
Acetazolamide should not be used in individuals with severe kidney or liver disease, or in cases where sodium or potassium levels in the blood are significantly reduced. It is also contraindicated in patients with chronic noncongestive angle-closure glaucoma.
Side Effects
Common side effects include headache, drowsiness, dizziness, fatigue, loss of appetite, increased urination, insomnia, and gastrointestinal discomfort.

There is limited research on the safety of Acetazolamide in pregnant women and neonates. Therefore, it should be used with caution during pregnancy and lactation.
