Description
Indications
Antista is indicated for the following conditions:
- Urticaria (hives)
- Sensitivity reactions
- Angioneurotic edema (swelling beneath the skin)
- Vasomotor rhinitis (allergic rhinitis)
- Cough
- Common cold
- Motion sickness
- Other allergic conditions

Pharmacology
Antista contains Chlorpheniramine Maleate, an alkylamine antihistamine, which is one of the most potent H1-receptor blocking agents. Chlorpheniramine Maleate is widely used as an effective antihistamine with less sedation compared to other antihistamines such as promethazine. It works by competitively blocking H1-receptors to reduce allergic reactions.
Dosage & Administration
- Adults: The usual adult dose is 4 mg every 4-6 hours, with a maximum of 24 mg daily.
- Children:
- 6-12 years: 2 mg every 4-6 hours, with a maximum of 12 mg daily.
- 2-5 years: 1 mg every 4-6 hours, with a maximum of 6 mg daily.
- 1-2 years: 1 mg twice daily.
- Below 1 year: The use of Chlorpheniramine Maleate is not recommended.

Interaction
Chlorpheniramine Maleate may be incompatible with:
- Calcium chloride
- Kanamycin sulfate
- Noradrenaline acid tartrate
- Pentobarbital sodium
- Meglumine adipiodone
Contraindications
Antista is contraindicated in:
- Patients who are hypersensitive to Chlorpheniramine Maleate.
- Newborns or premature infants.
Side Effects
Antista is generally well-tolerated, but some side effects may include:
- Drowsiness
- Dizziness
- Muscular weakness
- Gastrointestinal upset
Pregnancy & Lactation
This medication should not be used during pregnancy, especially during the first trimester, or by lactating mothers.
Precautions & Warnings
- Use with caution in patients with glaucoma or prostatic hypertrophy.
- Caution should be exercised while driving or operating machinery during treatment with Chlorpheniramine.
Overdose Effects
Symptoms of overdose may include:
- CNS depression (sedation, apnea, cardiovascular collapse)
- CNS stimulation (insomnia, hallucinations, tremors, convulsions)
- Tinnitus (ringing in the ears), blurred vision, dizziness, ataxia (lack of coordination), hypotension (low blood pressure)
- Anticholinergic effects (dry mouth, fixed dilated pupils, flushing, hyperthermia, gastrointestinal symptoms) are more likely in children.
