Axibid 500 mg
Description
Indications
This medication is used for the treatment of bacterial infections caused by bacteria that are susceptible to it.
It is effective in treating:
- Pharyngitis/Tonsillitis caused by Streptococcus pyogenes.
- Acute Bacterial Otitis Media caused by Streptococcus pneumoniae, Haemophilus influenzae, Moraxella catarrhalis (beta-lactamase producing strains), or Streptococcus pyogenes.
- Acute Bacterial Sinusitis caused by susceptible organisms such as Streptococcus pneumoniae and others.
- Chronic Bronchitis exacerbated by bacterial infections, and several other bacterial infections, as per the treating physician’s recommendations.
Note: Always use as prescribed by a registered healthcare provider.
Pharmacology
Cefuroxime is an effective, broad-spectrum antibiotic with bactericidal properties. It works against a wide variety of pathogens, including strains that produce beta-lactamase, an enzyme that can make bacteria resistant to many common antibiotics. Due to its ability to resist degradation by bacterial beta-lactamases, it is effective against a number of strains resistant to ampicillin and amoxicillin.
