Pharmacology
Astaxanthin, the active ingredient in AztaCap, functions as a potent antioxidant through two key mechanisms: suppressing singlet oxygen and inhibiting lipid peroxidation. These actions help neutralize harmful free radicals, making it an effective antioxidant.
Astaxanthin is absorbed into the intestinal epithelium through passive diffusion, along with dietary fats. It is then incorporated into lipoproteins and transported to the liver via the lymphatic system and bloodstream. The majority (over 70%) of absorbed Astaxanthin is found in high-density lipoproteins (HDL) within the plasma. The highest concentrations of Astaxanthin are detected in the small intestine, followed by subcutaneous fat, abdominal fat, spleen, liver, heart, kidneys, and skin, with the lowest levels found in muscle tissues.
