Pharmacology
Cefaclav 500 mg Tablet contains Cefuroxime, a second-generation cephalosporin antibiotic with bactericidal properties. It is effective against a broad spectrum of Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, including beta-lactamase-producing strains. Cefuroxime works by inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis, disrupting the transpeptidation process essential for bacterial survival.
Clavulanic acid, a beta-lactamase inhibitor derived from Streptomyces clavuligerus, helps protect Cefuroxime from degradation by beta-lactamase enzymes. By irreversibly binding to these enzymes, Clavulanic acid extends Cefuroxime’s efficacy against resistant bacteria.
