Clavusef
Indications Clavusef is prescribed for the treatment of infections caused by susceptible bacteria, including:
- Pharyngitis/Tonsillitis: Caused by Streptococcus pyogenes.
- Acute Bacterial Otitis Media: Due to Streptococcus pneumoniae, Haemophilus influenzae, Moraxella catarrhalis (including beta-lactamase-producing strains), or Streptococcus pyogenes.
- Acute Bacterial Maxillary Sinusitis: Caused by Streptococcus pneumoniae or Haemophilus influenzae.

Pharmacology Clavusef is a combination of two active components:
- Cefuroxime: A second-generation cephalosporin antibiotic that works by inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis, leading to bacterial cell death. It is effective against a broad spectrum of Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, including beta-lactamase-producing strains.
- Clavulanic Acid: A beta-lactamase inhibitor derived from Streptomyces clavuligerus. It binds irreversibly to beta-lactamase enzymes, preventing the breakdown of Cefuroxime and enhancing its efficacy against resistant bacteria.
