Description
Indications
Lubrex is indicated for the symptomatic relief of burning, irritation, and discomfort due to dry eyes or exposure to wind or sun. It is also used in the treatment of keratoconjunctivitis sicca (chronic dry eye syndrome).
Use as directed by a registered physician.
Composition
Each ml contains:
Active Ingredients:
- Glycerin BP – 2 mg
- Hypromellose USP – 3.6 mg
- Polyethylene Glycol 400 BP – 10 mg
Excipients:
- Ascorbic acid, boric acid, sodium tetraborate, disodium hydrogen phosphate dodecahydrate, sodium citrate, sodium lactate solution, dextrose, glycine, sodium chloride, potassium chloride, magnesium chloride hexahydrate, sodium hydroxide, water for injections.
Preservative:
- Benzalkonium Chloride BP – 0.2 mg
Pharmacology
Lubrex is a sterile, clear, aqueous lubricant eye drop that spreads rapidly over the conjunctiva and cornea, forming a protective and hydrating film.
- Polyethylene Glycol 400 enhances the stability of the tear film, preventing rapid tear evaporation.
- Hypromellose increases the adhesion of the tear film to the ocular surface, ensuring longer-lasting hydration.
- Glycerin helps restore moisture, providing relief from dryness and irritation.
- Electrolytes in the formulation mimic natural tears, promoting a healthy corneal epithelial surface.
Dosage & Administration
- Instill 1 drop in the affected eye(s) three times daily or as needed.
Use as directed by a registered physician.
Drug Interactions
- If using multiple ophthalmic medications, allow an interval of at least 5 minutes between applications.
Contraindications
- Contraindicated in patients with hypersensitivity to any ingredient in the formulation.
Side Effects
- Occasionally, mild transient burning or a sticky sensation may occur.
- Rarely, irritation, hypersensitivity reactions, or temporary blurred vision may be experienced.
Pregnancy & Lactation
- Safety during pregnancy and lactation is not well-established. Use only if prescribed by a physician.
Precautions & Warnings
- Remove contact lenses before using Lubrex.
- Do not use if the solution changes color or becomes cloudy.
- Avoid contamination: Do not touch the tip of the dropper to any surface, and replace the cap after each use.
