Description

Indications:
Natoph is indicated for the treatment of fungal infections such as blepharitis, conjunctivitis, and keratitis caused by susceptible organisms, including Fusarium solani keratitis.

Pharmacology:
Natamycin, a tetraene polyene antibiotic derived from Streptomyces natalensis, acts by binding to fungal cell membrane sterols, altering membrane permeability and leading to the loss of essential cellular components. It is effective against Candida, Aspergillus, Cephalosporium, Fusarium, and Penicillium. Topically, it reaches effective concentrations in the corneal stroma without significant intraocular absorption.

Dosage & Administration:Fungal Keratitis: Instill 1 drop in the conjunctival sac every 1-2 hours initially. After 3-4 days, reduce to 1 drop 6-8 times daily. Continue therapy for 14-21 days or until the infection resolves.
Fungal Blepharitis & Conjunctivitis: Instill 1 drop 4-6 times daily.
Pediatric Use: Safety and effectiveness have not been established.
Contraindications:
Contraindicated in patients with hypersensitivity to any of the suspension’s components.

Side Effects:
Possible side effects include eye irritation, discomfort, edema, conjunctival chemosis, and hyperemia.

Pregnancy & Lactation: Category C. No animal reproduction studies have been conducted, and the effect on human pregnancy is unknown. Use only if clearly necessary.
Lactation: It is unknown if Natamycin is excreted in human milk. Caution is advised when used by nursing mothers.

Precautions & Warnings: Avoid contaminating the dropper tip.
Contact lenses should not be worn if symptoms of fungal infection are present.
Lack of improvement within 7-10 days may indicate resistance, requiring further clinical evaluation.
The suspension may adhere to ulcerated epithelial areas or be retained in the fornices.

Storage Conditions:
Store in a cool, dry place, away from light. Do not freeze. Discard after one month of opening.

Note: Always follow a registered physician’s guidance when using this medication.
