Description

Indications:
Optavit is indicated for the management of age-related eye diseases (ARED). It provides nutritional support for the eye by delivering essential antioxidant vitamins, minerals, and Lutein to help reduce the risk of Age-Related Macular Degeneration (AMD) and cataracts.

Composition (Per Capsule):

• Vitamin C: 60 mg
• Vitamin E: 30 mg
• Lutein (Ph. grade): 6 mg
• Copper (as Cupric oxide): 2 mg
• Zinc (as Zinc oxide BP): 15 mg

Pharmacology:

• Vitamin C: Highly concentrated in the eye lens, Vitamin C helps reduce the risk of cataracts and plays a key role in scavenging harmful free radicals.
• Vitamin E: An antioxidant vitamin that helps neutralize free radicals and may lower the risk of cataracts.
• Lutein: A carotenoid concentrated in the macula, which helps protect the eyes from oxidative and light-induced damage. Higher dietary Lutein is associated with a lower risk of AMD.
• Zinc: An essential trace element that supports multiple enzyme systems. Zinc deficiency may cause distorted or absent taste/smell, poor wound healing, and increased infection risk.
• Copper: Plays a critical role in growth, skeletal health, and nervous system development. It is involved in several metabolic processes.

Dosage & Administration:
One capsule, once or twice daily, or as directed by a physician.

Contraindications:
Contraindicated in individuals with a known hypersensitivity to any of its ingredients.

Side Effects:

• Vitamin C: High doses may cause diarrhea and gastrointestinal discomfort.
• Vitamin E: Excessive intake may cause diarrhea, abdominal pain, fatigue, and weakness.
• Zinc: May cause abdominal pain and dyspepsia.

Drug Interactions:
No known drug interactions were reported.

Pregnancy & Lactation:
Optavit is recommended for use during pregnancy and lactation for maintaining eye health.

Precautions & Warnings:

• Vitamin C: Use with caution in patients with hyperoxaluria.
• Vitamin E: Use cautiously in patients taking anticoagulants or estrogen, as it may antagonize vitamin K and increase blood clotting time.

Store in a dry place below 25°C. Protect from light.
