Supotaria Respirator Solution 25 mcg/ml
Description
Indications
Glycopyrrolate Respiratory Solution is specifically designed for long-term maintenance therapy in individuals with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), which may include chronic bronchitis and/or emphysema.
Take the medication as prescribed by a registered medical professional.
Pharmacology
Glycopyrrolate is a potent long-acting muscarinic antagonist that selectively targets muscarinic receptors M1 to M5. Within the respiratory system, it exerts its therapeutic effect by inhibiting the M3 receptor in the smooth muscle of the airways, leading to bronchodilation.
Dosage & Administration
This Glycopyrrolate nebulizer solution is intended exclusively for inhalation using a high-efficiency mesh nebulizer. It should never be ingested orally or administered through injection. The recommended dosage is one ampoule twice daily, inhaled with a high-efficiency mesh nebulizer, once in the morning and once in the evening. It is important to administer Glycopyrrolate at the same times each day. For safety, the dosage should not exceed one ampoule twice daily.
Always store the ampoule in its protective blister and remove it just before use. No dosage adjustments are necessary for older patients, those with mild to moderate renal impairment, or those with liver dysfunction.
Instructions for Use:
- Open the packet and remove the blister. Carefully detach an ampoule from the blister.
- Twist off the top of the ampoule. Always hold it in an upright position.
- Pour the required amount of the solution into the nebulizer chamber.
- If dilution is necessary, follow your doctor’s specific guidance.
Take the medication as prescribed by a registered medical professional.
Interaction
- Sympathomimetics and Steroids: Studies have shown no increased risk of adverse reactions when glycopyrrolate is taken alongside other common COPD treatments such as sympathomimetics (long and short-acting beta2 agonists), anticholinergics (short-acting muscarinic antagonists), and steroids, whether oral or inhaled.
- Anticholinergics: Be cautious when combining glycopyrrolate with other anticholinergic drugs, as this could amplify anticholinergic effects. It is advised to avoid unnecessary co-administration with other anticholinergic medications.
Contraindications
Glycopyrrolate is contraindicated for individuals with known hypersensitivity to the drug or any of its ingredients, which include Sodium Chloride, Citric Acid Monohydrate, Sodium Hydroxide, Hydrochloric Acid, and Water for Injection.
Side Effects
Common adverse reactions may include:
- Shortness of breath
- Urinary tract infection
- Wheezing
- Upper respiratory tract infection
- Runny nose
- Fatigue
Pregnancy & Lactation
There is insufficient data from well-controlled studies regarding the safety of glycopyrrolate use during pregnancy. It should only be prescribed to pregnant women if the potential benefits justify the risks to the fetus. Glycopyrrolate is not recommended for children.
Precautions & Warnings
- Do not use in patients experiencing acute COPD exacerbations or to manage acute symptoms.
- If paradoxical bronchospasm occurs, discontinue the use of the nebulizer solution immediately and consider alternative treatments.
- Exercise caution in patients with narrow-angle glaucoma, as the condition may worsen. Instruct patients to consult their physician promptly if symptoms develop.
- Use with caution in patients with prostatic hyperplasia or bladder neck obstruction, as worsening urinary retention may occur. Instruct patients to contact their physician if symptoms persist.
- This product does not contain preservatives. Always use a fresh ampoule for each dose and open it immediately prior to administration. Store the product below 25°C.
Overdose Effects
In the event of an overdose, signs of anticholinergic toxicity may include nausea, vomiting, dizziness, lightheadedness, blurred vision, increased intraocular pressure (leading to pain, vision disturbances, or redness of the eye), constipation, and difficulty urinating.
Therapeutic Class
Bronchodilator
