Description
Indications:
Xenole is used for the relief of symptoms associated with:
- Osteoarthritis
- Rheumatoid Arthritis
- Ankylosing Spondylitis
- Reducing the risk of gastric ulcers in patients at risk of NSAID-induced ulcers.

Pharmacology:
Xenole combines two active ingredients:
- Naproxen: A nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) that relieves pain, inflammation, and fever by inhibiting prostaglandin synthesis.
- Esomeprazole: A proton pump inhibitor that decreases stomach acid production, reducing the risk of gastric irritation associated with Naproxen.
Dosage:
- Adults: Take one tablet twice daily, providing either 375 mg of Naproxen and 20 mg of Esomeprazole, or 500 mg of Naproxen and 20 mg of Esomeprazole.
- Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis (12 years and older): Dosage depends on weight.
- Always follow a registered healthcare provider’s guidance.
Administration:
Take the tablet at least 30 minutes before meals. Do not chew, crush, or split the tablet.
Interaction:
- NSAIDs may reduce the effects of antihypertensive drugs.
- Caution when taken with warfarin, as it may increase the risk of bleeding.
- May interfere with absorption of certain medications like ketoconazole and iron salts.
- Food with high fat may delay the absorption of Naproxen.
Contraindications:
- Hypersensitivity to any component of the tablet.
- History of asthma or allergic reactions after taking NSAIDs.
- Use during CABG surgery.
Side Effects:
Common side effects include gastrointestinal issues like nausea, vomiting, constipation, and abdominal pain. Serious risks include GI bleeding and ulceration. Use with caution in elderly individuals due to increased risk of gastrointestinal events.
Pregnancy & Lactation:
- Not recommended in the third trimester of pregnancy or while breastfeeding.
- Use with caution during the first and second trimesters.
Precautions:
- Monitor for gastrointestinal issues, especially in older adults.
- Caution in patients with cardiovascular disease or renal impairment.
Storage:
Store below 30°C, away from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
