Description

Indications: Xyflo 10 mg Tablet is indicated for the prophylaxis and chronic treatment of asthma, acute prevention of exercise-induced bronchoconstriction (EIB), and relief from symptoms of seasonal and perennial allergic rhinitis.

Pharmacology: Montelukast is a selective leukotriene receptor antagonist that blocks cysteinyl leukotrienes (LTC4, LTD4, LTE4), which play a key role in airway inflammation, edema, and smooth muscle constriction associated with asthma and allergic rhinitis. By inhibiting the CysLT1 receptor, Montelukast helps in reducing these inflammatory responses, leading to improved respiratory function.

Dosage & Administration: For adults and adolescents 15 years and older, the recommended dosage is 10 mg once daily. For children aged 6 to 14 years, the dosage is 5 mg once daily. For children 2 to 5 years, the dosage is 4 mg once daily. For infants aged 6 months to 5 years, 4 mg oral granules once daily can be taken directly or mixed with food or water. No dosage adjustment is required for patients with mild-to-moderate hepatic or renal insufficiency, and elderly patients do not require dose modifications.

Drug Interactions: Xyflo 10 mg Tablet has been safely used alongside other medications for asthma management without significant interactions. It does not alter the pharmacokinetics of commonly used drugs like theophylline, prednisone, oral contraceptives, NSAIDs, benzodiazepines, and decongestants.
