Zemicef 400 mg
Description
Indications:
Zemicef is indicated for treating the following infections caused by susceptible bacteria:
- Upper Respiratory Tract Infections (URTI): Otitis media, pharyngitis, and tonsillitis
- Lower Respiratory Tract Infections: Bronchitis
- Urinary Tract Infections (UTIs): Cystitis, cystourethritis, and pyelonephritis
- Other Infections: Typhoid fever and gonococcal infections
Dosage & Administration:
- Adults & children (10+ years): 200–400 mg daily as a single dose or in two divided doses
- Children (6 months–10 years): 8 mg/kg daily (administered once or in two doses)
- Renal Impairment: Dosage adjustment may be required for patients with creatinine clearance <20 ml/min
Side Effects:
Common side effects may include:
- Gastrointestinal issues (diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain)
- Headache and dizziness
- Rash, itching, or allergic reactions
Severe reactions (e.g., anaphylaxis or Clostridium difficile-associated diarrhea) are rare but require immediate medical attention.
Precautions & Warnings:
- Caution is advised for patients allergic to penicillins or cephalosporins.
- Avoid using Zemicef during pregnancy or lactation unless prescribed by a physician.
- Monitor renal function in elderly patients and those with renal impairment.
Storage:
Store below 30°C, protected from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
