Zifolet 5 mg+20 mg
Description
Indications
This tablet is prescribed for the treatment and prevention of Folic Acid and Zinc deficiencies.
Pharmacology
This formulation contains Folic Acid and Zinc Sulfate Monohydrate, essential nutrients that play critical roles in various bodily functions. Zinc is a vital trace element involved in multiple enzyme systems necessary for human health. A severe deficiency of Zinc can lead to skin lesions, hair loss (alopecia), diarrhea, increased vulnerability to infections, and cognitive impairment.
Folic Acid, a B-vitamin, is converted in the body to tetrahydrofolate, a coenzyme essential for metabolic functions such as the synthesis of purine and pyrimidine nucleotides, which are crucial for DNA formation. It also plays a role in amino acid metabolism. Folic Acid deficiency can result in megaloblastic anemia, which may occur due to inadequate dietary intake, malnutrition, malabsorption, increased bodily demand (such as during pregnancy or hemolytic anemia), or the use of folate antagonistic drugs.
Dosage & Administration
The usual recommended dose is one tablet daily, or as directed by a physician.
Drug Interactions
- Excessive Calcium intake may reduce Zinc absorption.
- No significant drug interactions have been reported with Folic Acid.
Contraindications
- Zinc should not be used in individuals with known hypersensitivity to Zinc.
- Folic Acid is contraindicated in patients with untreated cobalamin (Vitamin B12) deficiency.
Side Effects
When taken at the recommended dose, this supplement is generally well tolerated. However, some individuals may experience mild gastrointestinal symptoms such as abdominal discomfort, indigestion (dyspepsia), nausea, vomiting, fever, or respiratory distress.

This supplement is considered safe for use during pregnancy and lactation, as both Folic Acid and Zinc are essential nutrients for maternal and fetal health.
