Azithromycin is acid-stable and rapidly absorbed. It concentrates at the infection site due to its high lipid solubility and extended half-life, allowing for convenient once-daily dosing. It inhibits bacterial protein synthesis by binding to the 50S ribosomal subunit, effectively treating gram-positive, gram-negative, and atypical bacteria.

- Co-administration with ergot derivatives is contraindicated
- Not recommended in patients with severe hepatic disease
Common Side Effects:
- Gastrointestinal issues: nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, diarrhea
