Description

Indications

This tablet is used for the treatment and prevention of deficiencies in Folic Acid and Zinc.

Pharmacology

This formulation contains Folic Acid and Zinc Sulfate Monohydrate, both essential for various physiological functions. Zinc is a vital trace element necessary for human nutrition and plays a key role in multiple enzyme systems. Severe Zinc deficiency can lead to skin lesions, hair loss (alopecia), diarrhea, weakened immunity, and cognitive impairments.

Folic Acid is a B-vitamin that is converted in the body to tetrahydrofolate, an important coenzyme involved in metabolic functions such as purine and pyrimidine nucleotide synthesis, which are essential for DNA production. Additionally, it participates in amino acid metabolism. Folic Acid deficiency can result in megaloblastic anemia, which may arise due to poor dietary intake, malabsorption, increased demand during pregnancy or conditions like hemolytic anemia, and the use of folate-antagonist medications.

Dosage & Administration

The usual recommended dose is one tablet per day, or as directed by a physician.

Interaction

High amounts of Calcium can reduce the absorption of Zinc. No significant drug interactions have been reported with Folic Acid.

Contraindications

This tablet should not be used in individuals with known hypersensitivity to Zinc. Folic Acid is contraindicated in patients with untreated cobalamin (Vitamin B12) deficiency.

Side Effects

At the recommended dosage, this combination is generally well tolerated. In some cases, mild gastrointestinal issues such as abdominal discomfort, indigestion, nausea, vomiting, fever, or respiratory distress may occur.

Pregnancy & Lactation

This supplement is considered safe and is recommended for use during pregnancy and breastfeeding.

Overdose Effects

Excessive intake of Zinc Sulfate can have a corrosive effect, potentially causing irritation and inflammation of the mucous membranes in the mouth and stomach.
