- Chronic pneumonia
Use only under the guidance of a registered healthcare provider.
Pharmacology
Ambolyt contains Ambroxol, an active metabolite of bromhexine, which has been shown to provide a stronger bronchosecretolytic effect compared to bromhexine. Ambroxol works by improving the rheology of sputum through hydration, which liquefies mucus in the respiratory tract, making it easier to expectorate and alleviating symptoms of dyspnea. Additionally, Ambroxol stimulates the production of surfactant phospholipids by alveolar cells, reducing surface tension in the alveoli. It also helps reduce bronchial hyperactivity and possesses anti-inflammatory properties by inhibiting the production of cellular cytokines and arachidonic acid metabolites. In patients with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), Ambolyt improves airway patency.

Drug Interactions
Ambolyt should not be taken alongside antitussive medications (e.g., Codeine) since it may prevent the expectoration of the liquefied mucus.
Contraindications
Ambolyt should not be used by individuals with a known hypersensitivity to Ambroxol or Bromhexine.
Side Effects
Occasionally, gastrointestinal side effects such as epigastric pain or a feeling of fullness in the stomach may occur. In rare cases, allergic reactions such as skin eruptions, hives, or angioedema have been reported.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Studies on teratogenicity and fetal toxicity show no harmful effects of Ambroxol. However, its use during pregnancy, especially in the first trimester, is not recommended. Safety during lactation has not been fully established.
Precautions & Warnings
Ambolyt should be used with caution in patients with gastric or duodenal ulcers or convulsive disorders. It should also be used cautiously in individuals with liver or kidney impairments.
