Description

Indications
Ecosprin is indicated for the following uses:

• Prophylaxis against arterial occlusive events: Myocardial infarction, myocardial re-infarction, post-bypass surgery, acute ischemic stroke, and transient ischemic attack (TIA).
• Mild to moderate pain relief: Headaches, muscle pain, dysmenorrhea, toothaches, and more.
• Chronic conditions with pain and inflammation: Osteoarthritis.
• Antipyretic: For fever associated with cold or influenza.
  Use as directed by a registered healthcare professional.

Pharmacology
Aspirin, the active ingredient in Ecosprin, works by reducing platelet aggregation, which prevents thrombus formation in the arteries. This is particularly important because thrombi often form in areas where platelet aggregation occurs, and anticoagulants are less effective. Aspirin is commonly used for headaches, temporary musculoskeletal pain, and dysmenorrhea. It has both anti-inflammatory and antipyretic properties that are helpful in various conditions. The enteric coating of Aspirin minimizes intestinal irritation and reduces the risk of gastrointestinal ulcers associated with the drug.

Dosage & Administration

• For pain, inflammation, and as an antipyretic: Take 300 mg of Aspirin, 1-3 tablets every 6 hours, not exceeding a daily dose of 4 grams.
• For suspected acute coronary syndrome: Take 150 mg to 300 mg immediately unless there are contraindications.
• Post-myocardial infarction: Take 150 mg daily for 1 month, followed by a long-term dose of 75 mg daily.
• Acute ischemic stroke/Transient ischemic attack (TIA): Start with a dose of 150 mg to 300 mg daily, followed by 75 mg daily.
• Post-bypass surgery: Begin 75 mg to 300 mg daily, starting 6 hours after the procedure.

Interaction
Salicylates like Aspirin can enhance the effects of anticoagulants, oral hypoglycemic agents, phenytoin, and sodium valproate. They may reduce the uricosuric effect of probenecid and increase the toxicity of sulfonamides. In susceptible individuals, aspirin can trigger bronchospasm or asthma attacks.

Contraindications
Aspirin should not be used in children under 12 years old due to the risk of Reye’s syndrome. It is also contraindicated during breastfeeding, in individuals with active peptic ulcers, and in patients with bleeding disorders such as hemophilia, intracranial hemorrhage, or other forms of ulceration.

Side Effects
Common side effects at the typical dose include mild nausea, dyspepsia, gastrointestinal ulcers, and bronchospasm.

Pregnancy & Lactation
Aspirin should be avoided during the last three months of pregnancy unless explicitly advised by a doctor, as it may harm the unborn child or complicate delivery. Aspirin passes into breast milk, so it should be used cautiously in nursing mothers.

Precautions & Warnings
Ecosprin should be used with caution in individuals with asthma, uncontrolled blood pressure, or during pregnancy. It should also be taken carefully by those with nasal polyps or a history of nasal allergies.

Overdose Effects
Overdose symptoms may include dizziness, tinnitus, sweating, nausea, vomiting, confusion, and hyperventilation. In severe cases, overdose can lead to CNS depression, coma, cardiovascular collapse, and respiratory failure. If overdose is suspected, the patient should be monitored for at least 24 hours, as symptoms may be delayed. Treatment includes gastric lavage, forced alkaline diuresis, and possibly hemodialysis in severe cases.
