Risedon 150 mg
Description
Indications:
Risedon belongs to a class of medications called bisphosphonates. It works by altering the bone remodeling process, slowing bone loss, and increasing bone mass, which helps prevent fractures. Risedon is prescribed for:
- Preventing and treating osteoporosis in postmenopausal women.
- Increasing bone mass in men with osteoporosis.
- Preventing and treating osteoporosis caused by long-term steroid use (e.g., prednisone).
- Treating Paget’s disease of bone in men and women.
Always consult a registered physician before use.
Pharmacology:
Bone is constantly being broken down and rebuilt. In osteoporosis, bone breakdown outpaces formation, leading to thinner, fragile bones and a higher risk of fractures, especially in the spine, hips, and wrists. Risedon binds to hydroxyapatite crystals in bones, inhibiting osteoclast activity and reducing bone resorption.
Dosage:
- Postmenopausal Osteoporosis (to reduce vertebral fractures):
- 5 mg once daily, 35 mg once weekly, or 150 mg once monthly.
- Postmenopausal Osteoporosis (to reduce hip fractures):
- 5 mg once daily or 35 mg once weekly.
- Prevention of Osteoporosis in Postmenopausal Women:
- 5 mg once daily.
- Osteoporosis Due to Steroid Use:
- 5 mg once daily.
- Osteoporosis in Men at High Risk of Fractures:
- 35 mg once weekly.
Take the tablet on the same day each week or month as prescribed.
Administration:
- Take Risedon on an empty stomach, at least 30 minutes before the first food, drink (other than water), or medication of the day.
- If taking between meals, wait at least 2 hours before and after eating.
