Xeldrin 20 mg
Description
Indications:
- Gastric and duodenal ulcers, including NSAID-associated ulcers.
- Prophylaxis for patients with a history of NSAID-associated ulcers.
- Gastro-esophageal reflux disease (GERD) and acid-related dyspepsia.
- Long-term management of acid reflux disease and severe ulcerating reflux esophagitis.
- Prophylaxis of acid aspiration during surgery and Zollinger-Ellison syndrome.
- Helicobacter pylori-induced peptic ulcer treatment (in combination with antibiotics).
Pharmacology:
- Omeprazole works by inhibiting the H+/K+ ATPase enzyme in the stomach, reducing acid secretion.
- The effects are noticeable within 1 hour, with maximum effect in 2 hours, lasting up to 72 hours.
Dosage:
- Oral:
- For gastric and duodenal ulcers: 20 mg daily (4-8 weeks).
- For NSAID-associated ulcers: 20 mg daily for 4 weeks.
- GERD: 20 mg daily for 4-8 weeks.
- For acid reflux management and other indications, doses range from 10 mg to 40 mg, based on severity.
- IV Injection:
- Used for prophylaxis of acid aspiration and for severe cases where oral medication is inappropriate. Administered in doses of 40 mg to 60 mg, depending on the condition.
Side Effects:
- Common: Rash, urticaria, diarrhea, headache.
- Serious: Liver enzyme changes, mental confusion, photosensitivity, and rare cases of anaphylaxis or hepatic failure.
Precautions & Warnings:
- Avoid use with clopidogrel, as it reduces the drug’s efficacy.
- Long-term use may be associated with osteoporosis-related fractures and gastric atrophy.
- Caution in patients with liver disease.
Pregnancy & Lactation:
- Generally considered safe during pregnancy, but breastfeeding should be avoided unless necessary.
Storage Conditions:
- Keep in a dry place, away from heat and light, and out of reach of children.
