Description

Indications: Zif-CI is specially formulated for the treatment and prevention of Iron, Folic Acid, and Zinc deficiencies, particularly during pregnancy and lactation. Use under the supervision of a registered physician.

Composition (Per Capsule): Elemental Iron (as Carbonyl Iron INN) 50 mg, Folic Acid BP 500 micrograms, Zinc Sulphate Monohydrate USP 61.80 mg (equivalent to 22.50 mg Zinc).

Pharmacology: Zif-CI’s timed-release formulation provides optimal absorption of essential nutrients. Carbonyl Iron offers over 98% pure Iron, ensuring high bioavailability with minimal side effects. It is safer and more effective for iron supplementation compared to other forms of iron.

Dosage & Administration: Adult: One capsule daily before food or as directed by a physician. Follow physician’s guidance for proper use.

Drug Interactions: Carbonyl Iron may reduce the absorption of tetracycline, quinolone antibiotics, levodopa, levothyroxine, methyldopa, and penicillamine. Folic Acid may lower the plasma concentration of antiepileptic drugs such as phenobarbital, phenytoin, and primidone.

Contraindications: Do not use in patients with hypersensitivity to any components or those with Iron overload conditions.

Possible Side Effects: Gastrointestinal disturbances such as nausea, vomiting, anorexia, constipation, diarrhea, and dark stools. Rare allergic reactions may occur. Carbonyl Iron pellets help reduce gastrointestinal irritation.

Pregnancy & Lactation: Avoid drug use during the first trimester unless iron deficiency is confirmed. Supplementing with Zinc and Folic Acid is beneficial during later pregnancy stages if diet is insufficient.

Precautions & Warnings: Use caution in patients with Iron overload conditions (e.g., haemochromatosis, haemolytic anemia). Lack of response may indicate other underlying causes of anemia requiring further investigation. Patients with renal failure may be at risk for Zinc accumulation.

Overdose Effects: Symptoms may include fatigue, nausea, abdominal pain, black stools, rapid pulse, fever, seizures, or coma. Seek immediate medical attention in case of overdose.
